Live khutbah translation
The khutbah,
in your language.
Tarjumo shows the Arabic khutbah as live text on your iPhone and translates it line by line into English or German. Everything runs on the phone, even without signal in the prayer hall.
Free in the mosque · for iPhone · Android later
How it works
Pick your language
English or German. On first start you download the translation once over Wi-Fi.
Sit near a loudspeaker
Point the bottom of the phone at the loudspeaker. A clip-on or USB-C microphone works too.
Read along
Each line appears in Arabic with its translation while the imam speaks. Qur’an verses are recognised and marked.
Made for the khutbah
No signal needed
Speech recognition, Qur’an detection and translation run on the iPhone. No minute meter, no limit.
Qur’an verses recognised
When the imam quotes a verse, Tarjumo shows its surah and ayah, never a machine translation. The translation of its meaning is by Pickthall in English; German is coming.
Also with the phone locked
The latest line and its translation stay on the lock screen and in the Dynamic Island.

Questions
Do I need the internet?
Only once: to sign in and to download the translation (1.1 GB, best over Wi-Fi). After that Tarjumo works in the prayer hall without signal.
Why do I have to sign in?
Your plan belongs to your account, and later your History on every device. You sign in with a code by email, no password.
Which languages?
The khutbah in Arabic, translated into English or German. More languages are planned with the cloud AI.
Is the imam recorded?
No. The audio is processed on the phone and never uploaded. Only if you switch it on in Settings does Tarjumo keep recordings on your iPhone. Ask the imam first.
How accurate is it?
In ordinary rooms Tarjumo gets most words right. In very large, echoing mosques it is much harder, and we are working on that now. Sit near a loudspeaker. Translations can be wrong; for rulings, ask a scholar.
When does the app come out?
The iPhone beta starts soon. Write to hello@tarjumo.com and we will let you know.
